100th Birthday Celebrations
On Wednesday, 1st August together with the Mayoress I visted Walton Lane Community Centre, Nelson to join in the 100th Birthday celebrations of Mrs. Annie Wilkinson.
Hello. I am Councillor Allan Buck, the past Mayor of Pendle Borough Council for 2007/8 (That's Pendle Hill at the back of me, by the way!) Pendle is situated on the borders with Burnley, Ribble Valley and North Yorkshire. It has around 98000 inhabitants living in Nelson, Colne, Brierfield, Barnoldswick, Barrowford, Earby and lots of villages. I live in Barnoldswick (known locally as Barlick). For 18 years I have been a Pendle councillor, the last 5 for Coates Ward in my home town. I have been active in local community work since the 1970's. Amongst other things, I enjoy walking and last year we perambulated the Pendle Way - 45 miles of spectacular countryside. We enjoyed it so much that we turned round and walked it the other way! I suggest that you get out and see for yourself the wonderful scenery that we have here in Pendle.
During my year of office The Mayoress was my sister, Barbara Mitchell and our chosen charities were; West Craven First Responders, Rainbows Special Needs Therapy Nursery and Burnley & Pendle Befriending Scheme - Crisis Relief Fund to which we contributed £16500 at the end of the year.
