Mayoral Sunday

This year marks the first time in almost 20 years that Barnoldswick has had a representative as Mayor of Pendle. To celebrate the occasion, this year's Mayoral Sunday took place in the town on 21st May. It was a nice sunny and warm day.

A morning service at Ghyll Church began the day, and we were greeted on our arrival by horse-drawn carriage by Barnoldswick Brass Band. The Reverend John Lancaster was recently appointed as our Mayor's chaplain and he led the service.

At 1.15pm the we led a procession from Barnoldswick Civic Hall through the town accompanied by the Brass Band, the Deputy Mayor and Mayoress, local councillors and guests of the Mayor. The horse and carriage being used for guests who had walking difficulties.

Mayor Making

The 2007 Mayor Making took place on Thursday 17th May where I, Councillor Allan Buck and my sister Mrs Barbara Mitchell took up the office of Mayor and Mayoress of the Borough of Pendle.
As part of the Mayor Making ceremony, I outlined my theme for the year ahead - The Whole of Pendle - which will include promotion of tourism, parks, local communities and local businesses.

I also delivered a speech to the council, officers and members of the public. You can click here to download a copy of the Mayor's speech.
